Help & Advice
Channons aims to simplify the auction experience for both buyers and sellers. Please find below the answers to the most common questions asked. If you need any further assistance please contact us.
Considering consigning an item to auction?
The first step is to get in contact with Channons either via email or telephone with complete item details. Please have a full item description available and any images you can send through. Channons will then review the information and provide feedback.
I have an item I want to put into auction, what is the next step?
The first step is to get in contact with Channons either via email or telephone 01932 590343. Once various items have been discussed and agreed, e.g. reserves, Channons will retain the information on a 'Contract and Receipt' form. This document includes your instructions to sell the item and also acts as your receipt for the items you have consigned.
What Charges are there for selling my item at an auction?
Complete details of the associated fees for selling an auction can be found on the How to sell page. A simplified version is:-
Entering a memorabilia item - £10 + VAT per lot
Entering a vehicle - £150 + VAT per lot
Channons offers a very competitive commission rate of 10% + VAT per lot. In simplified terms, if your item sells for £100 when the auctioneers hammer falls, Channons retains 10% (£10) with the remainder (£90) due to the client. Associated VAT figures need to also be taken into consideration. There is also a minimum commission amount of £5 + VAT per memorabilia lot and £100 + VAT per vehicle lot.

What Charges are there for purchasing an item at an auction?
The price you pay is the amount at which the auctioneer's hammer falls plus a buyer's premium of 10% + VAT where applicable. In simplified terms, if you are the successful bidder for an item that reaches £100 when the auctioneers hammer falls, Channons charges 10% (£10) with the total due to Channons being £110. Please note associated VAT figures on both the item and commission rate need to also be taken into consideration.
Is there anything specific I should be aware of if I attend the auction?
