How to bid

Registration:

Channons offers each registered user a unique bidding reference number to enable them to bid at auctions without having to go through a complex and longwinded registration process for every sale.

Channons offers the following options for bidding on an item:

  1. In person

If you attend the auction you can bid in person. After verification of identification, usually completed by supplying a driving license and passport, each attendee will be issued with a paddle number. If you wish to bid on an item, you must raise the paddle to attract the attention of the auctioneer. If you are successful in winning a lot, your paddle number will be noted and when you are finished bidding you can proceed to the cashiers area to complete payment. If you wish to bid on several items, it is recommended you first complete bidding on all the lots you are interested in before heading to the cashiers to complete payment.

  2. Online

Once you register with Channons you are provided with a unique membership id which also correlates as a paddle number. When you to a specific sale you can place bids on lots. One of the benefits of placing an online bid with Channons is that you will receive feedback whether you are the current highest online bidder. If you are the highest bidder you will receive a message stating your bid amount and that you are currently the highest. If you place a bid but another online user has placed a higher bid you again will be notified. Please note you cannot find out the current highest online bid without placing an online bid yourself. Please note online bids are accepted up until 48hrs before the auction start. If you wish to bid after this time please contact us.

  3. Telephone

If you wish to bid on a higher value lot, typically £1,000 or greater, you can choose to make a telephone bid. Telephone bids MUST be pre-booked by contacting Channons a minimum of 48hrs before the auction start. It is highly recommended telephone bidders register with Channons before the sale to ensure a faster process. A representative of Channons will contact you several lots before your chosen lot comes under the hammer. When the lot you wish to bid on arrives, you will be talked through the bids and asked whether you wish to bid. This process will continue until you are successful in winning the lot or until you no longer wish to bid.

  4. Absentee bidding

If you wish to leave an absentee bid for a lot, Channons is happy to accommodate you. It is again highly recommended you register with Channons to ensure a faster process. After verification of your registration and identification, Channons will act as a representative to secure the lot(s) you are interested in. You must inform Channons of the highest amount you wish to bid for a lot, please note this figure is the maximum hammer price you are prepared to pay. Please note, if two bids of equal value are received, the bid that arrived first is given preference.

  5. Bid and follow the auction online
